High Risk Offenders

      HIGH RISK OFFENDERS SCHEME

Some offenders will fall under the High Risk Offenders Scheme, whereby if you comply to any of the categories listed below then you will need to complete a Medical once you have applied for your licence.  The application for your licence will need to be sent 90 days prior to your new reduced driving date(once you have completed this course)*.  This will allow the Medical Advisors of the DVLA time to arrange you Medical.  PLEASE NOTE:  you will not be able to drive until you can prove that you are 'fit' to drive again.  You are required to pass a medical examination with one of the DVLA's appointed doctors (more information will be provided about the medical whilst on the course).  It would be in your best interest to attend the course early in your ban, so that areas of change can be addressed to assist you later for your Medical.

You are classed as a High Risk Offender if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Those offenders who have been disqualified twice within a 10 year period.
  • Those persons who provided a specimen which equalled or exceeded 2 1/2 times over the drink drive limit being:            87.5 mircorgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres (ml) of breath                                                                                                         200 milligrammes (mg) of alcohol per 100ml of blood                                                                                                                           267.5 mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine
  • Refused to give an example to test for alcohol
  • Refused to allow a sample of your blood to be tested for alcohol (for example if you were unconscious at the time, and later refused)
* PLEASE NOTE:  Currently due to the pandemic it has been difficult to arrange the medicals and therefore the DVLA have requested that you attend this course early in your ban and apply for your licence once you have finished your course (not at 90 days prior as per the application form).
